Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.

Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

But the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a decider.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a tight final set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he earned the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
