Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
